Artmix – There is no substitute for a sculpture
It seems that we don't need a classic sculpture, that we could make do with design of all kinds. The Lechtivá statue exhibition, organised by the Czech Sculptors' Association, which is committed to the sculpture-craft tradition and tries to elevate it, wants to show that the statue has not lost its original meaning. It was and is a spirit-shaped mass. At the same time as this exhibition, another show of contemporary female sculptors is taking place in Liberec. Through a selection of sculptors from the younger and middle generation (Hulačová, Immrová, Komm, Korečková, Skavova, Roztočilová, Šubrtová and others), it highlights the diversity of the contemporary Czech scene.

Sculptor and graphic artist Monika Immrová finished her studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague in 2001. Both the sculptural and graphic aspects of her work are based on the simplest, almost minimalist, austerity of lines and shapes and reduced colour. Inspirations from ancient cultures – Egyptian, ancient and medieval art – are evident, and some of the artist's sculptures, straddling the line between figure and stele or column, are reminiscent of ancient excavations. Monika Immrová's sculptures and prints are even on display under the title "Connection" in the perfect exhibition space of the Gallery of the City of Louny, located in the Vrchlický Theatre in Louny. Editor Karel Oujezdský asked Monika Imrová what connection or context we should look for in her exhibition and in her works.
